Sharjah American International School (SAIS) is a K-12 educational institution located in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. SAIS awards an American high school diploma upon completion of the required coursework by the end of grade 12.
SAIS was founded in 1997 by Aisha Al Sayar, former assistant undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, and Nawaf Fawaz. It is acredited by the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation in 2000.
In addition to the middle eastern students, the student body represents nations from Pacific and South Asia, Africa, Australia, and North America. The school has 3000 students at the Sharjah campus.
Although there is an entrance examination for which applicants are charged a fee, all students are accepted into the school. For students that struggle with English, alternative English as a Second Language classes are offered for those who can afford to pay a fee.
Most elementary students wear uniforms. Compliance decreases with the older grades.
